New Releases in Oxford

2008 April 25

It’s almost that time of year when all the great fun releases arrive, just in time for the heat wave that descends upon us. The cool air conditioning of the Malco beckons. Still, Double Decker Festival is here tomorrow and it is hard to choose indoors options when so much live music and merriment awaits upon the square. I for one will be enjoying the sounds of Balance, Aaron Hall band, Dent May & His Magnificent Ukelele, Colour Revolt, Blue Mountain, and Dirty Dozen Brass band on Saturday.

However, there is always Sunday! I will be first in line on Sunday to see the hilarious Tina Fey and Amy Poehler in Baby Mama.

Deception looks pretty obvious but is a light summer fare kind of movie. I will be waiting until rental time for this one, but it does have a stellar cast including Ewan McGregor, Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, Natasha Henstridge. McGregor plays an accountant that is lured to a sex club by Jackman’s character and is then targeted as the prime suspect in a disappearance of a young woman. This is the fourth movie written by Mark Bomback, the previous being Bruce Willis’ Live Free or Die Hard. It’s also the feature directorial debut of commercial director Marcel Langenegger. Oh heck, I may have just talked myself into seeing it in the theaters. I do love first time directors.

Also, finally releasing this week is the not quite as good sequel to the hilarious White Castle adventure, Harold and Kumar Escape Guantanamo Bay . You can read my review here.
